Snow and weather are dynamic forces that change continually sometimes
dramatically over short periods of time. Backcountry travelers should be able
to assess current conditions for themselves plan their routes travel
accordingly. They can reduce exposure to avalanche hazards by using timbered
trails or ridges, avoid open areas with slope angles greater than 30 degrees.
West Central Montana Avalanche Center
Avalanches are the greatest source of danger for mountain
travelers. ...Avalanche Awareness... They CATCH and most often KILL the unwary
in a moment of INATTENTION OR IGNORANCE. Many accidents could have been avoided
had those involved been more KNOWLEDGEABLE and PREPARED! One of the ways that
the Montana Snowmobile Association has promoted safety is they have worked for
several years with various organizations to promote Avalanche awareness. If you
are a MSA member or would like to become one then your membership and/or
contributions can continue the assistance in avalanche safety and awareness.
Thank you.
